Charlie Nicholls

Founder

Charlie Nicholls has dedicated his career to preserving and restoring fine furniture, combining traditional craftsmanship with a genuine passion for bringing treasured pieces back to life.

He trained in Furniture Conservation and Restoration at Little Surrenden Workshops in Bethersden, near Ashford, Kent. In 1988 and 1989, Charlie gained his City & Guilds Parts I and II qualifications in Furniture Craft, achieving a Distinction in Finishing in recognition of his high standard of workmanship.

In 1989, Charlie founded Nicholls Restores, turning his lifelong passion into a family business built on quality, trust, and attention to detail. For more than 35 years, he has worked with antique dealers, collectors, and private clients, carefully restoring everything from cherished family heirlooms to valuable period furniture.

Charlie believes that furniture conservation is more of an art than a craft. Choices & decisions have to be made before the job is started right through to completion. He believes in conserving the original while restoring the beauty and function of the piece.

Every piece that comes into the workshop is treated with the same care and respect, with the aim of preserving its history, character, and beauty for generations to come.
